The class is about defining the weight and weightlessness of the body, through out motion and manipulation. We shall be working on solo, duets, group ensemble. Contact Improvisation and Improvisation being the main focus of the class. My real concern in teaching is to enhance in the participants the understanding of the need of moving and therefore create a platform where mind and body can freely interact.
The class progresses in a slow warm up where the use of the ground is preponderant. It's about feeling the body, awakening the senses and establishing contact with our inner and outer space. we are going to draw simple pathways through our movements in order to consolidate our relationship with the environment surrounding us. We shall be using the fundamentals of contact improvisation (rolling the point of contact, giving and taking weight, flying high, flying low, awakening of the senses through touch, non touch and intuition…) in order to unfold the delicate game of weight exchange.
In the exploration of more specific and technical exercises i may use techniques such as Klein, Release, Feldenkrais.
Firstly, it's about realigning the skeletal, and bring awareness to our individual range of motion. And secondly, we learn to move using the structure we have just worked on, using dynamic, space and impulses; Trying to move as effortlessly as we possibly can, still using the full power of energy channeled by every single movement.
“Making Contact” is the main question and not only within a contact improvisation structure, but always in our dancing.
We shall be using different scores to bring forth the answers.
1. Meeting.
2. Parting
3. Relating
4. Understanding
5. Communication
6. Intuition
And so forth
What’s hidden behind the physicality of our dance?
The class is set in such way as to convey a feeling of well being and confidence where participants of many different levels can increase their technical mastery and trust the creative energy that flows in each one of us.
I am teaching for professional dancers of all type to people with little or no dance experience at all. I am teaching classes, workshops and intensives.
My teaching experience includes Contact Improvisation, Improvisation and Release.
